Malaysian Firm Takes ‘Touch N Go’ To Hyderabad Airport Car Park E-mail
The “Touch & Go” ticketing system at Malaysian highways and car parks will be used in India, after a Malaysian-based company, Tenaga Group, clinched a contract to manage the automated parking management system at the Hyderabad International Airport that will be commissioned next March.

Tenaga Parking (India) Pvt Ltd, the Indian arm of Tenaga Group, secured the three-year contract to operate the car park facility, designed to accommodate 3,500 vehicles, in the face of tough competition from car park specialists from Australian, South Africn and Indian companies.

“We had the edge over the foreign companies because of our experience in managing car parks in this region,” Tenaga Parking general manager Rashpal Singh Deo told Bernama here.

Under the deal, Tenaga will use the “Touch n Go” system at the airport, which is set to handle 12 million passengers a year by 2020.

Describing the project as a tough challenge for the company in India, where paid parking is a relatively new concept, Rashpal said Tenaga will use its Sri Lanka experience to implement the system in Hyderabad.

In Colombo, Tenaga, whose core business is managing automated parking facilities, has handled similar projects for the past three years, such as at the Apollo Hospital.

“It will be a tough market, we need to understand the system here and need to create parking awareness among users,” he added.

Once in operation, the automated system will enable quick entry and exit of vehicles and streamline traffic flow around the Hyderabad airport.

While 3,500 car bays will be provided in front of the passenger terminal building, 153 two-wheeler bays, 125 car bays, 30 truck parking bays and dock parking bays will also be in place in front of the cargo area.

The company will also handle kerbside management at the departure and arrival levels of VVIP movements, taxis and shuttle buses as well as provide valet services.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd chief operating officer T. Srinagesh said: “Car parking is where a visitor gets his first and last impression of the airport.

“Keeping this in mind, we want to make the car park experience at our airport unique, (hence) we have selected Tenaga Parking, which helps us to fulfill our goal of setting international standards at our new airport.”
