It’s a top-of-the-world feeling, literally, when you
sit on the top of a multi-storeyed building and have a breathtaking
view of the city’s hustle and bustle. And when you look up, to be
greeted by the countless stars twinkling in the dark sky, the feeling
are heavenly. Imagine soothing music, delicious food and a glass of your favourite drink in the hand…, the feeling is just out of the world. Offering Hyderabadis a package of all this are roof-top restaurants in the city, which are a big hit with the people. And now, some of them are vying with pubs, trying to outdo the latter with exotic ambience and cool offers.
There are about half-a-dozen such restaurants in the city which always have people, mostly corporate guests, flooding them. Not just the afore-cited things are their USP, on the platter of the restos are unique offers to beat the increasing competition in the market.
‘‘We are sort of trying to replicate pub ambience in our restaurant. But we go one step ahead of the pubs as we just don’t belt out good music but offer a complete package. And mind you, we are popular not only with the young crowd but also with the young at heart,’’ says Terrace Bay Food and Beverages manager Parvez Alam. While this restaurant-cum-bar offers discounts on drinks everyday, it serves free drinks to ladies on Wednesday nights, a la pubs. This apart, on Wednesdays the guests can have a romantic candlelight dinner under the open skies. This roof-top restaurant located in the Babu Khan Mall, Somajiguda, has its resident DJs as well as guest DJs dishing out music on weekends.
But the discounts and offers of a few restaurants are limited to the guests from the corporate sector.
‘‘They give us business. So, it is natural that we offer them special treatment,’’ says Zafraan Group’s Exotica corporate general manager B Edward. ‘‘On all days we offer a discount of 10 per cent on food to corporate guests,’’ he says. This place, on Road No. 12, Banjara Hills, which has a part of its roof open, have lush greenery and the best view of the city. The water ponds with pebbles and golden fish, which might have been put there for fenghshui reasons, offer a great visual treat.
Seventh Heaven, located on the seventh floor of Venkat Plaza at Somajiguda, which is in the seventh year of its operation, offers ‘privacy’ and an ambience of ‘cosiness.’ ‘‘We were among the first roof-top restaurants in the city. Now there are so many,’’ says its restaurant’s general manager Y Srinivas. This restaurant and bar which is part of Sri Aditya Hotels and Resorts group is currently offering a discount of 20 per cent on food and beverages. A further discount of 10 per cent is being offered to its corporate guests.
Four Seasons at Tolichowki and Cocoa’s at Jubilee Hills are a few other good places which have a part of their buildings open to the sky. ‘‘We need not offer any discounts. We have a name for our authentic Hyderabadi food, including biryani and have won an award from the Tourism Department of the State,’’ says a manager here.
