July 09: The Andhra Pradesh police joined hands with the Jawaharlal
Nehru Technological University (JNTU) to train its personnel in
evolving applications of information technology.
The State Police chief M.A. Basith and JNTU Vice-Chancellor K. Rajagopal signed an MoU to this effect on Saturday. The JNTU would be responsible for identifying the IT requirements of the police department, design training modules, and prepare course materials. JNTU would also provide consultancy and classroom training and dedicated administrative support for creating training material and development of computer-based training packages. Mr. Basith underscored the need for a policeman to keep abreast of the developments in the IT field, as criminals tend to take advantage of the technological advances. With all the 1,600 police stations in the State to be provided connectivity soon, the training in IT applications would come in handy, he said. Initially, core teams of senior technical staff from Police Computer Services (PCS) would undergo training as part of the ‘AP Police Training of Trainers Programme’. The university colleges numbering over 260 would aid in consulting and training the core teams. These trained core teams would, in turn, train their colleagues at their District Training Centres. “The programme can solve several problems in the department,” M. Mahendar Reddy, Police Computer Sciences (PCS) IGP, said. |
