Laser Guns to check speed violators in Andhra E-mail
The Regional Transport Authority has acquired 38 speed laser guns. The guns would be utilized to check speed violations. The RTA is proposing to operate 10 guns in twin cities very soon, five in Cyberabad and the rest in different districts after providing training to RTA Motor Vehicle Inspectors, Hyderabad and Cyberabad police.


The gun will record the speed of a vehicle using laser beams. It can give details about the vehicle’s speed and a picture of the vehicle along with place and time in just 0.3 seconds. The guns can also be deployed during the night and infrared rays will check the speeding vehicles unobtrusively.

Violators would be punished under sections 183 and 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act for over-speeding and posing danger to others with a fine up to Rs. 1,000 and imprisonment of six months. And if the violator commits the offence twice in three years, then he/ she would be levied a penalty of Rs. 2,000 and imprisonment up to two years.

The German-made laser gun is a speed enforcement system emitting laser beams to measure the speed of a vehicle, take picture and give an on-the-spot printout describing details of the offence in just 0.3 seconds. Each gun costs around Rs. 10 lakh.
