| Politics:Congress promises Vizag to make a world-class city |

The Congress on Wednesday released its manifesto for Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections and made several promises to make Vizag a world-class city.
The promises, include supply of 25 tmc from Polavaram, completion of Godavari water diversion through Visakhapatnam Industrial Water Supply Scheme, rationalisation of water distribution system, Rs.50,000-crore investment on petrochemical complex and other industries, supply of gas from KG basin to develop Vizag-Kakinada industrial corridor and Greenfield international airport. Establishment of premier institutes like Indian Institute of Management and a branch of Nalsar University were also promised along with development of an education district on an area of 1,000 acres. A bus rapid transit system with a dedicated lane from Pendurthy to Dwarakanagar was also proposed at a cost of Rs.450 crores.
The manifesto highlights the ongoing projects like modernisation of INS Dega airport at a cost of Rs.200 crores, aluminium complex by Jindal, 100 per cent underground drainage coverage in the city and development of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences. |
