Cricket:World Cup Mascot made by Hyderabad E-mail

Mello - the official mascot of the 2007 Cricket World Cup - has been manufactured by a Hyderabad firm for a company in the US. The 15-feet tall inflatable cat will welcome visitors to the West Indies over the next two months.

"We got a basic sketch of the character from the client. We then visualised with skilled workers and we also have a visualiser to give it a 3D effect, first on paper and then made a model of it from clay or thermocol," said V N Bhanu, proprietor, Inflatable Deals.

The Mello exhibits that will be put outside cricket stadia, took 12 days to manufacture. Each exhibit cost 900 US dollars, including shipping cost to the US and will be transported out of Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Since the original contract is with an American company, there will be no 'Made in India' logo on any of the Mello exhibits. But it is perhaps a lucky sign that like the men in blue, Mello is also a cricketer in blue.
