Telugu Desam Party (TDP) retained the Rajahmundry and emerged the single largest party in Greater Visakhapatnam, but congress rebels won the good number seats, which may give the edge to the congress in Visakhapatnam.
Congress won the Hindupur municipality with a thin majority, thanks to the support of its ally CPI. The elections to the three urban bodies were held Monday.
In the 50-member Rajahmundry Corporation, the TDP bagged 29 seats against 17 by Congress. Four independents were elected.
The polls were crucial for both the parties in gauging their popularity, as the state will have assembly polls in a little over two years.
