Crime rates are rising in AP |

The city registered the highest number of rape cases in the state in 2006. The twin cities also saw an increase in the number of rape cases in 2006 as it stood at 87 compared to 62 in 2005. Karimnagar follows the city with 72 rapes. Cyberabad is not far behind, recording 55 rapes in 2006 compared to 40 in 2005. A whopping 1,60,844 crimes were registered in police stations across the state last year. In 2005, the figure stood at 1,43,658.
Cyberabad scored another dubious distinction, registering 180 murders against 139 in 2005 perhaps indicating the gravity of realty-induced crime in this part of the city. The number of cheating cases in Cyberabad almost doubled and stood at 934 cases. Likewise in 2006, it registered 107 cases of criminal breach of trust against 47 in 2005 possibly indicating the new crime hub of the state. While Hyderabad district earned itself the reputation of 123 rioting cases last year, which rose from 90 in 2005.
