Top companies are vying for the tourism department’s project to convert
old guest houses of the roads and buildings department into a chain of budget
hotels.
Over 20
companies have been short-listed to construct 34 hotels on build, operate and
transfer basis for 33 years. Depending on the location, the cost would range
from Rs 10 crores to Rs 40 crores.
The tourism department, along with the R& B department, has bundled four or
five towns into a package.
The package for the Visakhapatnam-Vizianagaram-Srikakulam-Araku-Paderu area got
the maximum 17 bids of which 15 were short-listed. The NalgondaSangareddy-Medak
and Siddipet-Keesragutta packages got the lowest number of five bids.
Roots Corporation Limited, an offshoot of the Taj Group, Gammon Infrastructure
Projects, Royal Orchid Hotels, Manjeera Hotels and Resorts and Unitech Limited
have bid for more than one package.
The chain has been divided into seven packages ranging from A+++ (very high
potential) to D (small). A+++ hotels are to be located in Vijayawada
and Visakhapatnam.
Other locations include Kurnool, Anantapur,
Kadapa, Chittoor, Mahbubnagar, Nellore, Ongole,
Chirala, Vodarevu, Guntur
and Machilipatnam.
Budget hotels will come up in Jaggayapet, Rajahmundry,
Kakinanda, Eluru, Ramachodavaram, Nuzvid, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Paderu,
Araku, Hanamkonda, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Mancherial, Nalgonda, Sangareddy,
Medak, Keesaragutta and Siddipet.
Each hotel will have air conditioned rooms, restaurant, gym/health club, small
departmental store, tourism kiosk cum souvenir shop, communication and
conference facilities.
The rates would be around Rs 900 per room in A-grade hotels. Chief Minister
Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy has reportedly insisted that hotels be made available to
government employees at Rs 100 per day.
